![]() ![]() ![]() An old friend leaves us today...
![]() PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- Fred Rogers, better known as television's "Mister Rogers," a cultural icon and kindly neighbor to generations of American children, died Thursday at the age of 74.
![]() Rogers died at his home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after a brief battle with stomach cancer, according to a spokeswoman for his production company. David Newell, a Rogers family spokesman, told The Associated Press that Rogers was exactly as he appeared on TV. "He was so genuinely, genuinely kind, a wonderful person," said Newell, who played Mr. McFeely on the show. "His mission was to work with families and children for television. ... That was his passion, his mission, and he did it from Day One." Rogers began developing his ideas for children's programming in the 1950s. He is best known for "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood," which began in its early form in 1963 as a show on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. Rogers took the idea to the United States and in 1967, the first "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" aired on Pittsburgh's WQED. A year later, PBS picked it up.
![]() The last original "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" aired in 2001, making it PBS's longest-running program ever. Rogers emphasized his advocacy for children in a 1993 speech, when he was honored for 25 years on the air nationally. "We have to remember to whom the airwaves belong, and we must put as great an emphasis on the nurturing of the human personality as we can," he said.
![]() That's why he got into television in the first place.
![]() "I got into television because I hated it so," he said. "And I thought there was some way of using this fabulous instrument to be of nurture to those who would watch and listen." Through the years, Rogers featured artists ranging from cellist Yo-Yo Ma to bodybuilder-actor Lou Ferrigno. He dealt with the death of pets and divorce, while teaching children to love themselves and others. During the Persian Gulf War, he made a series of public service announcements telling parents how to talk to their children about war. "Children aren't responsible for wars," he said. "The least and best we adults can do is to let our children know that we'll take good care of them no matter what." His recurring characters included Mr. McFeely and Lady Elaine Fairchilde, as well as puppets King Friday the Thirteenth, Daniel Striped Tiger and Curious X the Owl.
![]() 'I always thought I was a neighbor'
![]() Through it all, he maintained his down-to-earth, easygoing nature.
![]() "I have really never considered myself a TV star," he said in a 1995 interview. "I always thought I was a neighbor who just came in for a visit." It was that honesty that came through in his show. "I do think that young children can spot a phony a mile away," he said. Rogers also had a sense of humor about himself. He credited his mom for the fashion statement that says, more than anything else, "Won't you be my neighbor?" "My mother made a sweater a month for as many years as I knew her," Rogers said. "And every Christmas she would give this extended family of ours a sweater. "She would say, 'What kind do you all want next year?' " said Rogers. "She said, 'I know what kind you want, Freddy. You want the one with the zipper up the front.' "

![]() February 18, 2003
![]() Well the consulting thing is picking up, now working with a major theatre operator here in town. Give it a few months, and then things will be getting back to normal (until we go to war).
![]() Samantha is just getting bigger and bigger, I forgot how fast they grow! The rest of the kids are fine, everyone got their annual checkups and with the exception of a couple ear mites everyone is doing fine (The say Borris is overweight....I needed to pay someone to tell me that???)

![]() January 20, 2003
![]() Well just a quick update on everything. Nothing has changed since the start of the year. Glenn is still dealing with SBC and the screwed up way the do things, but he enjoys the challenge!
![]() Nothing new on the Bijou front - still in that case of limbo. That company that was doing work for us out of Clearwater just dropped of the scope, so I guess they are out of the picture! (Barry was right good thing we didn't pay them a big retainer!)
![]() Dealing with the fact that I will be another year older in a week. Ugh! When do I get my AARP card???? ;)
![]() January 1, 2003
![]() We had a great time at Allan & Joe's Last night!
![]() It was a very, very fun new years eve party!
![]() Thank you guys, and yes when we did get home at 4:47 am we were tired! (Amongst other things!)
![]() December 25, 2002 Christmas day
![]() Ho Ho Ho! The day is here, and We have talked to both sides of the family and everyone is having a good day. My sister Barb and her family is sick with the flu that is kicking butt in west Texas so they will not be coming over to San Antonio Thursday. :(
![]() And I got my Krispy Kreme for my Department 56 village (thank you princess!!!!) Take a look at all the pictures, current as of this morning by clicking here
![]() December 23, 2002
![]() We want to wish everyone a very merry Christmas! We will be spending the holiday here in San Antonio with our other "family" here. Glenn's Sister Jeanie will be with her family and Glenn's mom Jean and Aunt Dot in Venice this year. His other sister Sue, will be at home with her family up in the great cold eastern seaboard!
![]() My baby sister Lynn, and her fiancee JC will be with my folks home in Jamestown, undoubtedly dealing with allot of snow, and eating a fair number of AJ's Texas Hots! My sister Barb and her husband and the kids over in Lubbock are dealing with a ton of snow right now (Silly her moving to a part of Texas that gets snow!) The kids have the flu at the moment, so their trip here to San Antonio may be in jeopardy.
![]() Other than that life is good, okay we could all use more money, more time, more sleep, more sex (hey I can say that it's my site) but we hope that wherever you may be, you are okay and have a great Christmas!
![]() ![]() Lots of love, Bob, Glenn, Borris, Tuxie, Siberion, & Samantha
![]() December 17, 2000

![]() Don't miss tonight's meteor shower
![]() Tuesday morning may be the last chance until 2099 to see a truly spectacular meteor shower, scientists say. You'll have to be up and outside by 4:30 a.m. CST to see it though.
This week's Leonid meteor shower may be the largest such display until the end of the century, with possibly hundreds of meteors visible in the sky Tuesday morning.
The annual meteor shower usually delivers only a few visible meteors. But hundreds per hour might be visible as they burn up in the atmosphere this time, scientists say.
"Even with the full moon, this year's Leonids will probably be better than any other for the next hundred years," Don Yeomans, an astronomer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, said in a statement. "If you're ever going to see them, this might be the year to try."
The shower is predicted to have two peaks, each a couple of hours long, during which the most meteors can be seen, according to the lab.
The first peak is expected over Europe and Africa on Monday night, when observers in North America might see a few meteors skimming the top of the atmosphere, starting around 11:30 p.m. EST Monday. The shower's second peak, most prominent in North American skies, is expected at around 4:30 a.m. CST Tuesday. Even though the moonlight will wash out the dimmest meteors, viewers in good locations will be able to see a few meteors or more every minute.
Astronomers predict that the next occurrence of a Leonid storm even close to this magnitude will be in 2099.
"I say in the very least, a person should step out their back door and look up and give it 15 minutes," said Erik Hubl, an amateur astronomer and chairman of the Hyde Memorial Observatory Board in Lincoln, Neb. Meteors are actually bits of dust blown off comets by the solar wind as they swing past the sun. When the dust hits the upper atmosphere of Earth, the friction causes them to vaporize in a bright flash.
Earth crosses the path of Tempel-Tuttle every November, treating star watchers to a display of a meteor or two every minute. But when this planet flies through an area where the dust is thick, there can be a storm with thousands of meteors appearing each minute.
This has happened before. In 1833, 1866 and 1966 the dust of Tempel-Tuttle created awe and astonishment. The display last year was exceptionally good over some parts of the world.
At about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Earth is expected to pass through a cloud of dust blown off the comet in 1866.
At that time, the constellation Leo, where the meteors seem to originate, will be high in the southeast and the moon low in the west. The show is expected to continue until dawn.

![]() Krispy Kreme Opens
![]() ![]() ![]() Krispy Kreme Kraziness By Amy Dorsett San Antonio Express-News Web Posted : 10/02/2002 12:00 AM Drawn by glowing red neon and the promise of round sweetness, hundreds of hungry souls rolled out of bed hours before dawn Tuesday to visit the city's newest attraction: Krispy Kreme.
![]() They joined those who never made it to bed Monday night — a handful of faithful customers camped outside the Northwest Side store overnight.
By the time the shop's doors swung open at 5:30 a.m., an enthusiastic crowd of about 500 snaked around the building. Dozens more waited in their cars for the drive-through window.
Robert Haston, a junior at MacArthur High School, waited outside for 13 hours for the store to open. He said his mom allowed it so long as he arrived at school on time and didn't cause any trouble.
"It's not just any doughnut; it's Krispy Kreme," he said. "You can't explain it."
As customers flooded the store on the Interstate 10 access road near De Zavala Road, they were offered a warm, steamy doughnut practically dripping with glaze — the company's signature product.
While they waited they could peer into the "Doughnut Theater" where rounds of raw dough are transformed into doughnuts. The doughnuts ride along on an assembly line, get flipped in oil and bathed in a shower of glaze.
The end product is a jarringly sweet doughnut.
Bob Crawford, who arrived at the store before it opened, bought 20 dozen doughnuts to share with clients.
"They're just such a unique doughnut. There's nothing else like them," he said. "I got addicted to them in Houston. We've been waiting for this — we watched it be built."
Some invested hours in the store's opening, even though they had never tried a Krispy Kreme doughnut.
B.R. Anderson Jr., who owns TRC Staffing Services, parked his SUV in the drive-through lane around 9:30 Monday night.
"I've never, ever had a Krispy Kreme in my life," he said. "But all the hype, all the hoopla — I thought it would be really cool if my customers had fresh Krispy Kremes."
Anderson and his 12-year-old son, Kyle, spent the night reading and trying to get some sleep, but were kept up by excited Krispy Kreme fans, who passed the time by playing football.
By the time the store opened, Anderson was ready to sink his teeth into a hot doughnut.
"That was the hardest part — sitting out here all night long and smelling the doughnuts," he said. "My stomach was growling."
Anderson bought 42 dozen doughnuts to distribute to clients.
A crew worked around the clock beginning Monday, cranking out doughnuts to meet the opening-day demand. By 9 p.m. Tuesday the store had sold 12,000 dozen. It sold 15,700 doughnuts for each of the first seven hours the store was open.
The line of cars waiting to pull into the parking lot stretched down the Interstate 10 access road nearly to the De Zavala intersection.
Traffic control officers will be on hand for the first three weeks to handle the crush.

![]() Tonight is the big Enterprise party at our place. Hard to believe that just a few years ago, my Dad would bitch about me watching the same episodes of Star Trek over and over.. Now we are on our fifth Trek series.... Now, if only Space:1999 could make a come back!
![]() September 8th, 2000
![]() ![]() ![]() Today of favorite "Sour Kraut", Glenn, my other half turns the big 39!!! Just wait, next year we will have a hell of a party, but for today, its a nice dinner and a quiet night at home. (It is afterall the season finalie of Sex and the City)
![]() August 26, 2002
![]() Yippee! Well this weekend we took our first tubing trip down the river of the season! We were planning to do it over the July 4th weekend, but with all the flooding, (see the pictures) our plans were washed away (okay bad pun) They opened the river above Lake Travis last weekend, so we went to our favorite tubing spot, and had a blast. The river was still moving quickly, our normal five hour trip took us just under three hours, and yes we had a riot! I would love to send you to see all the pictures, but we forgot to take a camera! (see pictures from last year's First Trip Second Trip Click on a link) Oh well..
![]() Got the computer in my bedroom back up and running this weekend as well. It was having some problems with conflicts with some non-XP compatible programs. Nate, our computer guru got most of the glitches fixed, but it required wiping the hard drive clean, and reloading everything. Not really hard, just a pain in the ass! I did loose allot of stored information, but it will just be a hunting process for it on the backup CD's . (We burnt the entire hardrive contents onto CD's before we wiped it clean, so really nothing is "lost" just not at my fingertips!
![]() I have a bunch of pictures to get up onto the site, Oly is sending pictures from his new house, and we have a ton of pictures to post from the big Hooters party. Give me a couple more weeks, as I want to get the system back and running at 100% (currently the downstairs computer is not networked to the upstairs computers, so I am running up and down stairs depending on the programs)
![]() ***** Note to my family members'
![]() I seem to have lost altogether Jay's, Aunt Cindy's, Laura & Dave's, and Chad's addresses, could someone e-mail me that info? Just zap me the e-mail addresses okay?
![]() Okay other than that all is fine in San Antonio, and still waiting on visitors (hint, hint)
![]() Hugs!
![]() August 14, 2002
![]() Hello everyone. Well its been a strange year. Normally we are at the condo right now, but this year there is no Florida trip. We did get everyone together for Fiesta. Tonight is Denise's 46th birthday, and well we are going to have a party for her at Silo at 6:00 PM. I'll have some pictures up soon.
![]() Bijou did you ask? Well all is coming along ever so slowly. My biggest fear is that now after a few months of having it easy, once we get going it will be allot of work, but never fear all will be fine. Samantha is growing by leaps and bounds, pictures will be up soon.
![]() So that is it for now, hugs to all!
![]() Bob, Glenn, Borris, Tux, Siberion, and Samantha
![]() July 25, 2002

I was four cars behind the "evil person" and by the time I stopped all but one of the kittens were dead. Well this lucky little girl has now found her way into our home. So without further adieu, I give you Samantha!

![]() Today cleanup ends at ground zero. The physical part of 9/11 will be past as the ruins of WTC and the damage to the Pentagon are no longer visible. I sort of have mixed emotions on this day. The next question is what should we do next with the WTC site?
![]() Saturday May, 11, 2002
![]() Well the third annual JDRF gala went off without a hitch today. It was a long and tiring day, but the Moines we raise will hopefully someday find a cure to diabetes. Renee and her group donated an auction Item, a a full show with food, and it went for $4200! Yippee good going gang!

![]() Wednesday March 27, 2002
![]() It's a sad day for sure. Today we lost two greats.
![]() Mr. Television Milton Burle died after a long battle with cancer, and Dudely Moore died following a battle with a brain disease. The are tributes in the Cartoon section to both of these men.
![]() March 20, 2002

![]() March 17, 2002
![]() As I type this I am sooooo hung over from our Annual St. Patrick's Day Party! We finally crashed at 5:00 AM, and I have come to the conclusion that I am too old for this, and that is why we only celebrate Halloween and St. Patrick's Day! Check out the Party Pictures section of the site. When the photos from St. Pats are up I'll post a shortcut here, give me a couple days!
![]() February 25, 2002

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() February 23, 2002
![]() Well I have all the photos that I have up. I am still looking for photos of my friends and family, especially ones from childhood. Many of you are here for your first visit, welcome. I'm hoping some of you may have photos as well (Like when I fell into Lucky's bath in the back yard of Sam & Antoinette's, or how about that damn school play at C.C. Ring? Or camping trips with the Sanners? If you have 'em, please send them along to me either by snail mail or e-mail.
![]() Now if you got an e-mail from me, and you haven't heard from me lately, well what can I say? But 2002 if the year I have decided to touch base with allot of my old friends, so since you are here, make sure you send me you address & e-mail address. If your a kid, forward this site to your parents, or vice versa.
![]() Maybe it's just that at the ripe old age of 36, I finally realized that I am the sum of all my experiences, and you all have added to them over the years. Now go enjoy the site!
![]() February 7, 2002
![]() Sad news, today my Grandmother passed away. It is a good thing as she has been in the home for a while now, and her altizmers had gotten to the point that she was not there anymore.
![]() February 4, 2002
![]() Well fortune city is still having problems with their server, so the site is not where I wanted it to be. I am now projecting that it will be up and running by 2/14/02, fingers crossed.
![]() Until then, you can still surf around the site, it's just not really pretty and some of the photo sections do not have captions yet.
![]() January 25, 2002
![]() Okay this site is half rebuilt. I will keep working on it, and soon you can see the whole thing, but for now here is a preview.
![]() Oh, BTW- I am still looking for more photos for the family & Friends sections, so if you have any zap them to me if they can be e-mailed. If not mail them to me at home, I'll scan them and get them back to you!
![]() January 1, 2002
![]() Happy New Year! All of the Christmas pictures are in the system. Many do not have completed captions yet, but they are there for your viewing pleasure.
![]() It has been fun having Jeanne, Pat, Frank, And Caitlin with us for the last two weeks. But we are also looking forward to them going back to Venice, as I am sure that Nan is missing them!
![]() December 1, 2001
![]() Well I have sad news, today we had to put Newbie to sleep. He had another stroke, and this time it was a bad one. His little lungs filled with water, and he was just not a happy kitty. The bitch of it was today is the One Year anniversary since we had got him.
![]() After putting down two cats in the last two years it makes me very aware that when my time comes, I hope that I am not allowed to suffer and linger, but that I get to go with dignity, and surrounded by my loved ones.
![]() Sunday November 25, 2001
![]() Well we survived thanksgiving, and I guess there is allot to be thankful for this year. Special thanks to Helen, Tracy, & Denise for all their help over the last few weeks.
![]() The Christmas decorations will start going up tomorrow, so soon it will REALLY be the Christmas season!!
![]() October 28, 2001
![]() Well we had the biggest party to date. I said we had 100 people, Glenn informed me that we only had 87. I said we had about 500 Jell-O shots, he said we only had 450.
![]() We do agree that it kicked ass... Check out the pictures, and next time come in person
![]() October 16, 2001
![]() Well I have gone where I have never gone before!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I started a group on Yahoo about Connor Trinneer (he plays "Trip" Tucker on Enterprise) Now, I have stated before that I had decided that even before the series aired, that he was going to be my new favorite.
![]() But now I have a site about him! Have I turned into one of those "move out of your parent's basement and get a life Trekkies??"
![]() Or is it my mid-life crisis??
![]() You can visit the site at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gayconnortrinneerfans
![]() October 13, 2001
![]() Well the JDRF Walk to cure was held today in San Antonio. I am happy to report it was a success! Having spent 40 of the last 48 hours setting up, directing, and tearing down for the event, Glenn & I are going to get some well deserved rest. Wanna check the walk out? Surf over to the Primetime Newspapers web site at www.primetimenewspapers.com/jdrf
![]() You can see all the great photos of the event there, and for now it's time to say goodnight Gracie!
![]() October 7, 2001
![]() Well the big news is the bombing started today. Let's hope this is a quick and relatively painless war. I Have the majority of the summer vacation site up and running. There are a few photos to add, but you can get a good idea of what went on by visiting that section of our site.
![]() ![]() ![]() September 29, 2001
![]() This is it, you have been invited to the annual Halloween bash at Bob & Glenn's place. The event is on Saturday October 27, 2001 from 8:00 PM on . You must show up in costume. Bob & Glenn will be providing the "Haunted Jell-O Shots" and some other beverages.
![]() Hinda will be making one of her famous Halloween cakes, so plan on being here! Please RSVP from the invite page. You can get there by clicking on this link!
![]() September 24, 2001
![]() Hello all! Well the long awaited premiere of ENTERPRISE happens in just 2 days!! I am so psyched!! I have part (a very small part) of the vacation from this past summer at the condo up. You can see those pictures by clicking on the link to the left. Please remember that the site is VERY limited at this time. With everything that has been happening here, and in the world in general, spending time on the computer has not been a priority.
![]() 9-11-01
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Today we experienced the worst terrorist act in the history of the world. Glenn & I are praying that the death toll will be low, but we both fear that it will be in the tens of thousands. If you didn't click on the red cross link on the main page here is you second chance. If you have never given out your credit card on the net, do not fear, it is through amazon.com, and is safe.
![]() ![]() It has been flying around the net that the networks may push back the start of the new TV season. This may change our Enterprise party. This is one of the only reasons I would accept a delay in the next chapter in the Star Trek series. After all it's just a show, reality,, no matter how disturbing it may be is more important
![]() September 10, 2001
![]() ![]() ![]() Enterprise premiere party at our place Wednesday September 26, 2001 starting at 6:00 PM. Romulan ale will be served. Those who were in Florida at the condo with us are exempt from the mandatory Jell-O shots!
![]() September 10, 2001
![]() Well everyone survived the annual trip to the condo in Florida..However if I see one more margarita I am going to puke. I am working on updating the site with all the pictures ( Glenn & I shot 15 rolls, Randi & Paul have two sets of digital photos <Which still haven't been e-mailed to me) John has 6 rolls that he still hasn't gotten developed (I know you drop them off tomorrow) and Jeanne has four rolls to do> Okay all so get me the photos!
![]() August 6th 2001

![]() Nubie has a heart attack!
![]() ![]() ![]() At eight months old Nubie has had his first heart attack. It turns out that he has a heart defect, and a blood clot moved into his back end which left him paralyzed from the mid-back on. I am happy to report that he doing much better, but will need to be on aspirin for the rest of his life, and the vet has informed us that he probably won't make it past two or three years old. But we will make the best of the time with him. I guess after Baby living to 14 and Sasha living to 15 we assumed that all of our cats will live that long. Who knows, Nubie is one tough cookie so we are not counting him out yet.
